The first part of the journal is in diary form with daily entries covering the daily routine of cleaning decks and allowing prisoners on deck, temperature measurements, provisions opened, names of those admitted or discharged from the sick list and the number on the list. The second part of the journal, from folio 28, covers the treatment of some of the sick in more detail.
