Medical journal of the Mary Ann, convict ship from 4 June to 18 November 1839 by William Bland, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the ship was employed between Woolwich to Sydney, New South Wales.

Folios 3-5: case no 1, Sophia Clifton, aged 18, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, icterus; put on sick list 10 August 1839, discharged 27 August 1839 well.
Folios 6-8: case no 2, Hannah Brock, aged 32, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, amennorhoea; put on sick list 10 August 1839, discharged 14 October 1839 well.
Folios 8-10: case no 3, Sarah Annetts, aged 28, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, vermes; put on sick list 2 September 1839, discharged 18 September 1839 well.
Folios 10-14: case no 4, Letitia Richardson, aged 28, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, cephalalgia; put on sick list 4 August 1839, discharged 18 September 1839 well.
Folios 14-18: case no 5, Isabella Hannah, aged 21, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, scrofula; put on sick list 9 October 1839, sent 18 November 1839 to hospital at Sydney.
Folios 18-20: case no 6, Margaret Mitchell, aged 31, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, nephritis; put on sick list 14 October 1839, discharged 3 November 1839 well.
Folios 21-25: case no 7, Elizabeth Estnor, aged 22, convict, taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, dysenteria, was put on the list with irregularity of the bowels arrising from the sea sickness, she was in the habit of eating things partly indegestable, such as swallowing whole peas uncooked many of which were discovered in her stools; put on sick list 5 August 1839, died 4 November 1839 at 9 am.

Folios 26-30: Surgeon's general remarks. Very little can be said relating to any of the diseases recorded in the journal for except one fatal case of dysentery [case no 7], nothing else took place worthy of notice. Embarked at Woolwich between 19 June and 1 July [1839] 143 female convicts and 23 children, and 6 free women and children, leaving Woolwich on 18 July [1839], touching at Santa Cruz for a few hours, finally anchored in Port Jackson on 10 November 1839.
