Description

Medical and surgical journal of the Mariner convict ship from 30 December 1824 to 15 August 1825 1824 by Harman Cochrane, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed on a voyage to New South Wales.

Folios 1-2: Margret McKenna, aged 27, convict: disease or hurt, sickness at stomach, nausea and vomiting and slight pain in the epigastric region. Put on sick list, 28 February 1825 at Cove of Cork. Sent to the penitentiary at Cork per order of Dr Trevor.

Folios 2-4: Fanny Bell, aged 26, convict: disease or hurt, cold shivering, pain in back and limbs, headache, thirst, languor and lassitude. Put on sick list, 3 March 1825 at Cove of Cork. Discharged 19 March 1825.

Folios 4-8: Mary Ann Forster, aged 25, convict: disease or hurt, sea sickess, irritability of stomach, constipated bowels. Put on sick list, 10 March 1825 at Cove of Cork. Discharged 24 May 1825.

Folios 8-10: Ann Lang, aged 27, convict: disease or hurt, sea sick and oppression at the scorbrinlus cordis with a little difficulty performing respiration. Put on sick list, 10 March 1825 at Cove of Cork. Discharged 7 May 1825.

Folios 10-12: Margaret Martin, aged 26, convict: disease or hurt, violent pain in left ear. Put on sick list, 11 March 1825 at Cove of Cork. Discharged 5 April 1825.

Folios 12-13: Elizabeth Shannon, aged 36, convict: disease or hurt, sea sick. Put on sick list, 18 March 1825 at sea. Discharged 24 March 1825.

Folios 13-15: Margaret Jackson, aged 26, convict: disease or hurt, sea sickness and severe pain in stomach. Put on sick list, 19 March 1825 at sea. Discharged 1 June 1825.

Folios 16-17: Ann Taylor, aged 32, convict: disease or hurt, general soreness, headache and wandering pains. Put on sick list, 23 March 1825 at sea. Discharged 6 May 1825.

Folios 17-18: Mary McClelland, aged 46, convict: disease or hurt, sea sickness. Put on sick list, 26 March 1825 at sea. Discharged 4 May 1825.

Folios 18-19: Catherine Driscoll, aged 18, convict: disease or hurt, pain in right ear. Put on sick list, 2 April 1825 at sea. Discharged 17 April 1825.

Folios 20-21: Mary McManus, aged 20, convict: disease or hurt, pain in stomach with much vomiting. Put on sick list, 10 April 1825 at sea. Discharged 6 May 1825.

Folios 22-34: Ann Collins, aged 30, convict: disease or hurt, griping and purging. Put on sick list, 17 April 1825 at sea. Discharged 12 July 1825 to hospital at Sydney.

Folios 34-37: Margaret Johnston, aged 25, convict: disease or hurt, scrophulous swelling on left side of neck. Put on sick list, 24 April 1825 at sea. Discharged 1 June 1825.

Folios 37-39: Ann Dillon, aged 28, convict: disease or hurt, epileptic fits. Put on sick list, 4 May 1825 at sea. Discharged 23 May 1825.

Folio 40: Hariot Sheppard, aged 25, convict: disease or hurt, head ache, oppression of the scorbrinlus cordis, cough and difficult respiration. Put on sick list, 6 May 1825 at sea. Discharged 15 May 1825.

Folio 41: Catherine McGuire, aged 40, convict: disease or hurt, rheumatism (shoulders and neck). Put on sick list, 1 June 1825 at sea. Discharged 12 July 1825.

Folios 41-43: Elizabeth Hickson, aged 32, convict: disease or hurt, rheumatism in the muscles of the head and neck. Put on sick list, 4 June 1825 at sea. Discharged 10 July 1825.

Folios 43-44: Biddy Dwyer, aged 25, convict: disease or hurt, pain in chest, languor and lassitude and general soreness, constipated bowels. Put on sick list, 5 June 1825 at sea. Discharged 24 June 1825.

Folios 44-45: Mary Walsh, aged 20, convict: disease or hurt, violent pain in stomach which produced convulsive paroxysms of the most violent description unattended with nausea or sickness. Put on sick list, 21 June 1825 at sea. Discharged 26 June 1825.
