Medical journal of the John Barry, convict ship, for 14 August 1835 to 4 February 1836 by James W Ternan, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a passage to Sydney.
Folios 1-2: case no 1, John Whitehouse, aged 40, convict; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, spasmodic diarrhoea; put on sick list 10 September 1835, discharged 16 September 1835 cured.
Folio 2: case no 2, Fredrick Elliott, aged 16, convict; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, spasmodic diarrhoea; put on sick list 15 September 1835, discharged 22 September 1835 cured.

Folios 12-13: case no 8, J H Ward, aged 18, convict; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, gastritis, in mustering a division on deck after breakfast, he declared himself unable to come up, he was labouring under severe vomiting, great prostration, feeble pulse, cold extremities, clammy moisture all over his body, he pointed to the stomach and abdomen as the seat of his pain, the symptoms continued [and] delirium increasing [he was] screaming expressing of pain directed to the stomach, pupil dilated and fixed, he continued to sink and at 10.30 pm. Died. Those who lived with him in the mess stated that his habits were bad and appetite voracious- that he had on all possible occasions quantities of the fat from the coppers which he devoured most greedily; put on sick list 29 December 1835, died 29 December 1835.

Folios 16-17: case no 10, Morgan Davies, aged 52, convict; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, paralysis and extreme debility; put on sick list [?] January 1836, died 4 January 1836.
Folios 17-19: case no 11, Patrick Mahoney, aged 28, corporal 28th Regiment; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, synocha; put on sick list 8 January 1836, discharged 18 January 1836 to duty.
Folio 19: case no 12, Robert Cross, aged 27, convict; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, contusion; put on sick list 9 January 1836, sent 19 January 1836 to the Colonial hospital at Sydney.
