Description

Medical and surgical journal of HM convict ship Hooghley from 12 October 1827 to 5 March 1828 by Alexander Nisbet, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in a voyage to New South Wales.

Folios 1-4: Edward Tierney, private, soldier: case number 1; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 3 November 1827. Discharged 26 December 1827.

Folios 4-5: William Sergeanson, aged 19, convict: case number 2; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 9 November 1827 at sea. Discharged 15 November 1827 cured.

Folios 5-6: John Aspdin, aged 33, convict: case number 3; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 11 November 1827 at sea. Discharged 25 November 1827 cured.

Folios 6-9: Richard Curtis, aged 21, convict: case number 4; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 16 January 1828 at sea. Discharged 5 February 1828 cured.

Folios 9-11: Robert Pugh, aged 20, convict: case number 5; disease or hurt, tertiana. Put on sick list, 23 January 1828 at sea. Discharged 6 February 1828 cured.

Folios 11-12: James Wheeler, aged 18, convict: case number 6; disease or hurt, tertiana. Put on sick list, 8 February 1828 at sea. Discharged 21 February 1828 cured.

Folios 13-14: James Budge, aged 18, convict: case number 7; disease or hurt, tertiana. Put on sick list, 10 February 1828 at sea. Discharged 21 February 1828 cured.

Folios 15-17: John Budge, aged 23, convict: case number 8; disease or hurt, rhematismus. Put on sick list, 16 February 1828 at sea. Discharged 3 March 1828 to hospital.

Folios 18-19: Blank.

Folio 20: a numerical abstract of the medical cases mentioned in the journal nosologically arranged.

Folios 21-22: Surgeon's general remarks.

Folios 23-24: An abstract of the state of the weather in a voyage from England to New South Wales covering 5 November 1827 to 24 February 1828.
