Description

Medical and surgical journal of Her Majesty's hired convict ship Elizabeth and Henry for 9 September 1846 to 8 January 1847 by H Morris, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in the transportation of prisoners to Van Dieman's Land.

Folios 5-7: Henry Cornwall, aged 1; case number 3; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 22 October 1846. Discharged 7 January 1847 cured.

Folios 7-9: Mary Lane, aged 30; case number 4; disease or hurt, parturition (infant died). Put on sick list, 30 December 1846. Discharged 1 January 1847.

Folios 9-10: Susanna King, aged 30; case number 5; disease or hurt, parturition (infant died 24 hours after its birth). Put on sick list, 6 December 1846. Discharged 6 January 1847.

Folio 10: A nosological synopsis of the sick book kept during the period of the journal.

Folio 11: Surgeon's general remarks. 169 female prisoners and 25 of their children were the total number received on board this ship for a passage to Van Dieman's Land, but as one of the children died during the voyage, only 169 convicts and 24 children were delivered up to the authorities at Hobart Town, all these were in good health on being transferred to their respective asylums.
