Medical journal of the Barrosa, convict ship, from 7 July to 16 December 1839 by Robert Wylie, surgeon and superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in transporting prisoners from England to New South Wales.

Folio 24: Surgeon's general remarks. The Barrosa sailed from Sheerness on 3 August 1839 having embarked 336 male convicts, there, and at Woolwich, chiefly young men from various parts of England, a few from Scotland. They were all healthy, but before we started, I found the measles had been brought on board by some of the children of the guard. I therefore went to sea with considerable apprehension of being obliged to put back, or put inn, somewhere else, but fortunately it ceased after attacking 3 of the children and 3 of the prisoners.
