Medical journal of the Asia convict ship for 3 October 1824 to 6 May 1825 by Thomas Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, during which time the said ship was employed in conveying 200 hundred male convicts to New South Wales.

Folios 1-2: John Finn, aged 28, private 57th Regiment; sick or hurt, severe pains in the limbs, acute pain across the forehead, pulse accelerated, skin hot, tongue foul; put on sick list 8 October 1824 from Deptford to Portsmouth, discharged 20 October 1824.

Folios 2-4: Thomas Briggs, aged 37, convict; sick or hurt, enteritis, acute pain of the abdomen extending to the umbilicus, belly when slightly pressed occasion much pain; put on sick list, 20 October 1824 at Spithead, discharged 6 November 1824.

Folio 5: 8 October 1824. Examined individually the whole of the prisoners as to their total exemptions from cutaneous affections discovered out of two hundred convicts and seventy eight forming the guard, seven cases of psora, in all confined to the convicts. These were separated from the body of the prison.

Folio 5: James Holmes, H. S. Piers, Samuel Lemon, Henry Farley, Henry Bolton, John Dyer, John Scott, convicts; sick or hurt, psora; put on sick list, 30 October 1824 at Spithead, discharged 10 November 1824.

Folios 5-6: Sergeant Pike, 57th Regiment; sick or hurt, pneumonia; put on sick list, 10 November 1824 at Motherbank, discharged 26 November 1824 to duty.

Folio 6: James Minote; sick or hurt, gun shot wound to the hand which was eventually amputated. The surgeon and Colonel Stewart were of the opinion that the gun was fired to ‘intentionally …in order to procure a discharge’; put on sick list, 21 November 1824 at Motherbank, discharged 22 November 1824 to Portsmouth hospital.

Folio 7: William Hunter, aged 22, convict; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list, 6 December 1824, discharged 18 December 1824.

Folio 7: Charles Mullins, aged 46, convict; sick or hurt, fell from the main deck down the hatchway and fractured right arm; put on sick list, 8 December 1824 at Motherbank, discharged 10 February 1825.

Folio 8: James Lovell, aged 21, convict; sick or hurt, apoplexy; put on sick list, 9 December 1824 at Motherbank, died 9 December 1824.

Folios 8-9: James Hawson, aged 24, convict; sick or hurt, rheumatism; put on sick list, 20 December 1824 at Motherbank, discharged 4 January 1825.

Folios 9-10: Thomas Howes, aged 36, convict; sick or hurt, hepatitis; put on sick list, 20 December 1824 at Motherbank, died 6 January 1825.

Folio 10: John Nelson, aged 18, convict; sick or hurt, diarrhoea; put on sick list, 10 January 1825 at sea, discharged 16 January 1825.

Folio 11: James Jones, aged 23, convict; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list, 19 January 1825 at sea, discharged 30 January 1825.

Folio 11: James Mitchel, aged 21, convict; sick or hurt, diarrhoea; put on sick list, 26 January 1825 at sea, discharged 4 February 1825.

Folio 12: Henry Spurhley, aged 54, Joseph Hare, aged 19, James Stenning, aged 29, John Mathews, aged 22, convicts; sick or hurt, ulcers; put on sick list, 31 January 1825 at sea, discharged 31 January 1825.

Folio 12: John Broughton, aged 16, convict; sick or hurt, obstapatio; put on sick list, 6 February 1825 passage to Sydney, New South Wales, discharged 27 February 1825.

Folio 13: William Parsons, aged 19, convict; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list, 3 March 1825, discharged 10 March 1825.

Folios 13-14: George Thrush, aged 16, convict; sick or hurt, fever; put on sick list, 12 March 1825, discharged 20 March 1825.
