Palatinate of Chester: Chester County Court: Warrants of Attorney Rolls
Date

c1343-c1540

Description

Warrants of attorney sworn before the Justice of Chester in the Chester County Court or on an eyre were most often recorded in separate sections of the plea rolls of the court. This series consists of a separate series of rolls, covering many of the years between 1343 and 1540, in which some warrants of attorney were recorded. It is not clear why these warrants were separately enrolled during this long period. The rolls contain a heading for each session of the county court or eyre at which attorneys were appointed.

The entries give the names of the person appointing the attorney, the attorney himself, the opposing party and the nature of the plea. The later rolls also give the status or occupation of the parties, but not of the attorneys.
