Description

Herefordshire: Ledbury. St Catherine's Hospital. (1)-(2) Letter from the churchwarden, two overseers and others [of the parish of Ledbury] to Gilbert Jones, MP [for Aldborough, 1806-1812], reporting events at a meeting held in 'the Common Hall'. (3)-(4) Letter from (?) W Reece to Gilbert Jones, MP, concerning the suit Attorney-General v Napleton. The letter refers to a forthcoming Parish Meeting to discuss plans for the proposed rebuilding of the almshouses, and states that 'many of the Def[en]d[an]ts' objections to Mr Mylne's plans are groundless'. Both letters are badly damaged and only partly legible. (5) 'No. 1'. Ground plan of St Catherine's Hospital. Reference table to the chapel and to other buildings and rooms. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet. Compass indicator. By Robert Jones. Note at foot: 'Second plan made more correct by R.M'. This appears to be a draft or rough version of the following plan. (6) Fair copy of (3). Bears additional red letters against certain buildings, with no reference table. Some buildings coloured. (7) 'No. 4'. ground plan of the hospital, showing proposed new almshouses. By Robert Mylne, architect and surveyor. Entries in Mylne's diaries show that he was working on plans for the Hospital in August 1809 and May-June 1810. Dimensions: (5) 55.9 cm x 45.2 cm; (6) 61 cm x 44.5 cm; (7) 53.3 cm x 45.7 cm.
