Brazil: Sao Paulo. 'Carta da Provincia de Säo Paulo organisada por C. D. Rath 1886. Editores: Casa Garraux...S. Paulo.' Scale: 1 inch to 24 miles. Key to symbols and abbreviations, numerical key to principal mountains. By C D Rath, 1886. Enclosure in dispatch number 40 of 15 May 1888 from Hugh Gough, Consul at Rio de Janeiro. The dispatch relates to the obliteration of the Indian tribe at Paranapanema in the massacre of April 1888 and the map has manuscript alterations showing its territory. Other manuscript notes appear to concern the building of a railway from Botucatu to the Rio Paranapanema at the junction of the Tibagi, for which a contract was signed on 21 May 1888.
