Records of the engineering divisions of the Crown Agents dealing with various aspects of all sorts of public works, including road, rail and wireless communication, port and dock facilities, waterworks and irrigation, major agriculture developments including the East African Groundnut scheme, and the preservation of antiquities. Most are concerned with specific projects and countries, not all within or formerly within the Commonwealth, but a few are concerned with general principles.
Engineering divisions of the Crown Agents have operated from the 1860s, professional engineers first being employed in 1901. The Divisions were responsible for the design, placing of contracts and inspection of all kinds of engineering work including civil, electrical, mechanical, railway and marine.
