Endorsement (partly illegible) 'Inter Aston et al et Byron milites apud Anno Regni Regis Edward VI iiii'. Produced to show lands in dispute between Sir Edward Aston and Sir John Byron, 4-5 Edward VI. The commission of 3 December, 4 Edward VI (DL 3/56 A2j) required a survey to be made; a commission of 8 May (5?) Edward VI (DL 3/56 A2k) specified that a map should be made. Both commissions required the land to be surveyed by standard measure and by local measure: 8 cloth yards to a rod in Royton and Middleton, 7 cloth yards to a rod in Butterworth.
