1 item extracted from C 108/23. Quebec. 'Remarks and observations of the River St Lawrence, with directions for its navigation'. Pilot book compiled by John Veysey. The contents include: (1) Seven overlapping charts of St Lawrence River from Anticosti Island to Quebec, showing islands, soundings, anchorages, shoals, navigational hazards, navigational directions. Pencilled additions show hazards. Scale bar: 8 cm to 10 leagues (about 1 inch to 5 miles). (2) 'The Seven Islands. Latitude 50° 08': detailed plan of outline of Sept Îles, with soundings. Scale: 4 cm to 1 league (3 miles). Inset shows position of the islands in relation to mouths of River Ste Marguerite and River Moisie, and bay of Seven Isles, with anchorages. (3) St Lawrence River from Geese Island and Crane Island to Orleans Island to show passage known as the Traverse Islands, soundings, navigational hazards and directions, anchorages. Scale: 1 foot 4 inches to 1 league (3 miles). Volume 1 of Veysey's log for the Neptune, 18 February - 4 June 1759, remains in C 108/23; the presumed Volume 2, covering the journey up the St Lawrence River, is missing.
