Description

1 item (originally illustrating a memorandum by E Hertslet, Foreign Office, 20 March 1882) extracted from FO 46/295 (folio 108). North-east Asia. Map, cut from an Admiralty Chart [?possibly 2459], of the area between Irkutsk (Russia), Kodiak Island (American Alaska), Hong Kong and the Sandwich Islands (now Hawaii). Scale: 1 inch to about 315 miles (calculated); scale not constant because of projection. Compass rose. MS additions, coloured, marking Japanese territory (including the Kuril Islands, now in the Russian Federation) in yellow, and the boundaries of Russia in green. Endorsement: 'Map shewing Boundary between Russia & Japan, & Russia & the US in the Okhotsk & Behring [Bering] Seas. (Copper [Medny] Island)'.
