2 items (originally appended to the third report on Silk Culture in Japan, by F O Adams, Secretary to Her Britannic Majesty's Legation in Japan) extracted from FO 46/127 (folio 55-56). Japan. 2 maps. (1) 'Appendix 4': map of the Kanto region, between Yedo (now Tokyo), Niigata and Lake Suwa; also showing mountains, rivers, major towns. and ships in the harbours of Niigata and Yokohama. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to about 10 miles (measured). Compass indicator. Produced from a woodcut; printed by the 'Japan Mail' Office, Yokohama, 1870. MS title: 'Map showing the route taken by Mr Adams in his visits to various silk districts in Japan in 1869 and 1870'. (2) Outline map of Honshu and Shikoku showing rivers, [old] provincial boundaries and major towns. Printed by the 'Japan Mail' Office, Yokohama, 1870. MS additions, giving instructions to the printer [for a later, lithographed, version].
