4 items (originally accompanying a letter from Howell and Co to Acting Vice-Consul J J Quin, Hakodate, 13 July 1882) extracted from FO 262/385 (folios 168-171). Japan: Hokkaido: Hakodate. 4 sheets of site plans of the Foreign Concession, with Japanese measurements. (1) On blue paper, also showing the sea front and the public street; scale: 1:300; 'Copied from an old government plan'; endorsed: 'Descriptive Plan' of Foreign Concession at Hakodate in 1861'. (2) 'Nakaham Foreign Concession plan'; compass indicator; 1881. (3) Plan of the foundations and a surrounding stone wall; compass indicator. (4) Plan also showing the adjacent Custom House; compass indicator; 1875. Dimensions between 27.5 cm x 39 cm and 34 cm x 42 cm. Plan and letter subsequently enclosed in FO despatch number 26 from Quin to Sir Harry Parkes, 13 July 1882.
