Description

1 item extracted from CO 96/290 (folio 404). Gold Coast (now Ghana). 'The Fort - Kumasi': plan showing proposed alterations to gun batteries and emplacements; also showing existing walls, towers, gates, barracks etc. Reference notes on the state of the repair work. Scale: 1 inch to 16 feet. Compass indicator. Noted as a copy and signed: Matthew Jones, 17 March, 1897. Originally enclosed in despatch number 644 from William Maxwell, Governor and Commander in Chief, Accra, to Joseph Chamberlain, Secretary of State, Colonial Office, 22 March 1897; subsequently placed in Colonial Office file 8159: 'Gold Coast. Kumasi buildings...', 17 April 1897.
