1 item (originally enclosed in Mr Flower's despatch number 30, 1866) extracted from FO 262/114 (folio 71). Japan. 2 maps: (a) a watercolour sketch and (b) a brush sketch, joined to form a single sheet, each showing Hikoshima island and the adjacent areas of southern Honshu and northern Kyushu; both indicating the position of HMS Kestrel at the time she was fired upon; map (a) also showing mountains rivers and a boundary. Reference table to map (a). Cardinal points. Pencilled additions note that while map (b), copied from an Admiralty Chart, is accurate, map (a) is inaccurate. Map (a) was enclosure number 4 and map (b) enclosure number 3 to Flower's despatch; the despatch also contained a copy of the log from HMS Kestrel's voyage between Yokohama and Nagasaki, 14 September 1886.
