2 items extracted from FO 46/111. Japan: central Honshu: Kanto region. 'Map of Silk District to accompany Mr Adams's Report': 2 copies, both showing his route from Yedo (now Tokyo) to Ueda and back; also showing [old] provinces (with names), rivers, towns, roads, the residences of daimyos (regional lords), etc. (1) MS, coloured, on tracing paper; (2) Printed, coloured. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to about 12 miles. Compass indicator. Item 1 was produced to accompany: 'Report upon the Central Silk District of Japan': by Francis Otwell Adams, secretary to the British Legation, 7 August 1869; subsequently enclosed in Sir Harry Parkes's despatch, 9 August 1869.
