2 items (originally accompanying a notification to British residents [in Hakodate] from F Lowde, British Consulate, 6 July 1863) extracted from FO 262/58 (folios 57-58). Japan: Yezo (now Hokkaido): Hakodate. 2 sheets of ink drawings, showing: (1) the location of the proposed British cemetery relative to other (i.e. American, Japanese, Russian) cemeteries; (2) 'Gateway to Cemetery': front view of a Japanese-style gate. Signed and certified as true copies by Fred[erick] Lowde. Lowde's notification requested voluntary subscriptions towards the purchase of land for the cemetery; both notification and drawings were subsequently enclosed in despatch number 45 from the British Consulate in Hakodate to the Acting Consul General, Yedo (now Tokyo), 8 July 1863.
