Description

1 item (originally enclosure number 6 to a letter from Consul-General P Walker, 8 November 1847) extracted from FO 53/8. Nicaragua. 'A Sketch by Chronometer & Compass of St. John's River by Bar. Bulow; July 22, 23, 24th 1847 in his progress down the River in a Bongay...': map of the San Juan River from Lake Nicaragua to the Atlantic Ocean showing the topography of the land on either side. Reference notes on current, depth, navigability, etc. Scale: 1 inch to about 3 miles. Compass indicator. Inset: map of Nicaragua, showing Lake Nicaragua, with soundings, railway lines and the frontier with the 'Mosquitia Kingdom' (now in Honduras and Nicaragua); scale: 1 inch to about 18 miles.
