6 items extracted from FO 102/62. North Africa. 6 sheets of plans of archaeological sites now in Tunisia. (1) 'Plan of the peninsula of Carthage exhibiting the present excavations...': also showing Roman ruins above ground. Reference notes to figures and signs. Compass indicator. (2) Floor plan of large mosaic excavated at Carthage, showing portions the shipped aboard HMS Curaçao; also indicating those portions which had been lost prior to excavation; the actual mosaic is now in the British Museum. Reference notes to numbers and colouring. (3)-(4) 2 detailed drawings of irregular-shaped portions of the mosaic, mounted on cardboard. (5) 'Plan of Utica. June 1858. By Lieutenant E A Porcher, Royal Navy. Latitude 37° 4' N, Longitude 10° O E': ground plan on tracing paper, showing the sites of ruins. Scale: 1:10560. Compass indicator. (6) The peninsula of Carthage, showing the sites of excavations, ruins, the Lake of Tunis, roads, and terrain. Compass indicator. Sheet sizes between 26 cm x 35 cm and 59 cm x 118 cm. Item 6 produced to illustrate a report: 'Ruins of Carthage', 21 December 1858. All items originally enclosed in despatches from N[athan] Davis, excavator: (1) 28 May 1857; (2)-(4) 29 June 1857; (5) 26 June 1858; (6) 15 January 1859.
