5 items extracted from WO 193/908. North-East Asia. (1) 'Japan and Adjacent Areas': outline map of the area between Chita and Petropavlovsk, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, (both now in the Russian Federation), in the north-west and north-east respectively, and T'ainan, Formosa (now Taiwan), in the south-west, showing major cities. Scale: 1 inch to 120 miles [1:7,603,200]. MS additions show the areas of Japan and southern Korea occupied by the 6th Army, 8th Army, 10th Army, and number XXIV Corps. Coloured strips, affixed to the face of the map, form a key to the areas covered by items 2-5.
(2) Japan; Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (now the Russian Federatio. 'Map 1'; 'Hokkaido, Karafuto [i.e. southern Sakhalin] and the Kuriles': outline map showing major cities; (Hokkaido remains part of Japan; Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands are now part of the Russian Federation). Scale: 1 inch to 62.5 miles. MS additions, coloured, underlining Soviet-occupied cities. (3) Japan. 'Map 2'; 'Honshu and Shikoku': map showing prefecture boundaries and main towns. Scale: [1 inch to about 16.5 miles]. MS additions, coloured, showing inter-army boundaries and the positions of the 6th and 8th Armies, and the number XIV Corps; MS reference table. (4) 'Map 3'. Outline map of Korea, of Japan west of Nagoya, and of part of the north-eastern coast of China, showing major cities. Scale: [1 inch to about 96 miles]. MS additions, coloured, showing the position of number XXIV Corps; MS reference table. (5) Japan. 'Map 4'; 'Kyushu': map showing prefecture boundaries and main towns; also showing parts of the adjacent islands. Scale: [1 inch to about 15 miles]. MS additions, coloured, showing the positions of number V Amphibious Corps, 2 and 5 March [1945]; and a landing place of the FEAF [Far East Air Force]; MS reference table. Items 2-5 each marked, in MS: 'Secret'.
