Description

15 items, part sheets and offcuts from larger maps) extracted from WO 181/170. East Africa. (1) Sketch map (of territory now in Kenya and Somalia) based on parts of [sheets 1 and 2 of] a map [on multiple sheets] showing the Anglo-Italian boundary in Jubaland: MS, coloured. (2) Map of approximately the same area as item 1; MS, coloured, on tracing paper. (3-6) 4 small cuttings from parts of proof sheets of the Jubaland boundary map on which items 1-2 are based; printed, coloured; items 3-5 each consisting of parts of 2 joined sheets. (7-13) 7 sketch maps of parts of the area covered by the Jubaland boundary map, marking various inaccuracies and queries needing to be clarified; MS coloured, on tracing paper. (14-15) 'Zona di "tse-tse": 2 maps showing areas, covered by the Jubaland boundary map, infested with tsetse flies. Scale: (1-6, 14-15) [1:250,000]; (7-13) 1:100,000. Various MS additions, coloured, to each of items 3-6, marking suggested corrections, queries needing to be clarified, and faulty continuity between the sheets of the full map. Items 14-15 signed: Captain E H M Clifford, Royal Engineers, 23 January 1928. Dimensions between 40 cm x 37 cm and 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm. Originally enclosed: (1-2) in a letter from Captain Clifford, British Commissioner, [Jubaland Boundary Commission] to Major Napolitano, Italian Commissioner, 4 December 1928; (3-4) a letter from Napolitano to Clifford, 22 November 1928; (5) a letter from Napolitano to Clifford, 18 November 1928; (6) a letter from Napolitano to Clifford, 9 November 1928; (7-13) a letter from Napolitano to Clifford, 26 January 1928; (14-15) a carbon copy of a letter from Clifford to Napolitano, 23 January 1928.
