2 items extracted from FO 78/3206 Turkey. (1) Plan showing areas of Pera, Constantinople (now Istanbul) destroyed by fire, 26 January 1847; streets to be widened during rebuilding. Reference note. Scale: 3 inches to 50 Turkish piks [approximately 1:500]. Initialled by W.J. S[mith]. Originally enclosed in Lord Cowley's despatch number 383 of 3 November 1847. (2) 'Plan of the British Embassy Grounds at Pera': showing area destroyed by fire, 26 January 1847. Reference note. Scale: 1 inch to 30 feet (1:360). Compass indicator. [Drawn by] W J Smith. Lithographed by T R Harrison. MS additions show suggested sites for stables and chapel. Endorsed: 'Plan of the Ground on which the British Palace is building at Pera. April 1848'. Dimensions: (1) 42 cm x 68.5 cm; (2) 48 cm x 55.5 cm.
