Description

4 items extracted from FO 65/1358. Afghanistan. (1) 'Map of the head of the Yaki Yuz Canal'. English title superimposed on Russian language map. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to 50 sazhens. Compass indicator. MS. Originally annexed to Protocol number 2 of the Commission for the Demarcation of the Rectified NW Frontier of Afghanistan November/December 1887. (2)-(3) Sheets I - II of 'North West Afghanistan Boundary.' MS, coloured, on tracing cloth. (2) 'Map of Rectified Boundary between Pillars 19&36' 'Sheet I' covering an area falling diagonally between Kushk River and Murghab River; (3) 'Map of Rectified Boundary between Pillars 65& Oxus' 'Sheet II' covering an area falling in a triangle between Bosaga to the north, Andkui to the south-west and Akgha (now Akcha) to the south-east. The Oxus river is now known as the Amu Darya river. (4) Headed 'Sheet III', map titled 'Sheet I Oxus Survey Surveyed by subsurveyor Saiad Ulla', covering an area around Bosaga and Danaji. Lithographed, coloured, with coloured MS amendments. Prepared at the office of the Trigonometrical Survey of India, Dheru Dun, October 1886. Lithographed at the Intelligence Branch, War Office August 1887. 'Intelligence Branch'; '660' cancelled and '704' substituted. (2) and (3) surveyed and boundary pillars in (4) inserted by W Peacocke, Major, Royal Engineers, assisted by Yusuf Sherif, Sub-Surveyor. (2)-(4) signed by W Peacocke, and Charles E Yates, Lieutenant Colonel (for the British); N Komarow, Captain and P Ilyin, Captain (for the Russians). (2)-(4) formerly filed with copies of Protocols 1-4, Afghan Boundary Commission1887-1888.
