5 items extracted from FO 179/397 East Africa. (1) and (2) 'Map of the Anglo-Portuguese Boundary in East Africa, from Latitude 18°30' South to the Mazoe River. Made in 1898 under the superintendence of Lieut. Col. J. J. Leverson, C.M.G., R.E., British Commissioner, by Capt. A.E. Watherston R.E., and Lieutenant C.R. Brown, R.E., assisted by 2nd corporals A.E. Adamsom R.E. and J.E. Browne R.E. & Lancs Corpl. P.F. Stancliffe R.E.' 'Barue Section'. (1) Sheet 1: IDWO 1398(a); (2) Sheet 2: IDWO 1398(b). Scale: 1:250000. Heliozincographed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, 1899. Coloured MS additions show boundary as proposed by British and Portuguese Commissioners and an alternative line proposed by HM Government in Note of 12 November 1899 to Senor Beirao (see FO 179/347). Originally enclosed in Foreign Office despatch of 6 January 1904 to Sir Maurice Gosselin. (3) and (4) are further copies of (1) and (2), overprinted to show boundary modifications between 18°30' S and the River Zambesi. Part of another copy of sheet 1 showing an alternative proposal is affixed to (3). This boundary was described in Sir M Gosselin's despatch no 109 of 4 June 1903, forwarded in Lord Lansdowne's despatch of 6 June 1903. The area shown in (1)-(4) is now in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. (5) IDWO 1479. 'British Central Africa Dedza Boma Africa 1:250,000 (Provisional) Sheet III-K'. MS additions show actual position of Beacon no.1 and true point of intersection of watershed with parallel. Scale: 1: 250000. Reproduced at the Intelligence Division War Office from a map supplied by the Chief Surveyor, British Central Africa, 1901. Heliozincographed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, 1901, with corrections and additions June 1902. Originally enclosed with Lansdowne's despatch no.108 Africa of 5 October 1904. The area shown is now in Mozambique and Malawi. Dimensions: (1) 53 cm x 44.5 cm; (2) 54 cm x 45 cm; (3) 49.5 cm x 44.5 cm; (4) 52 cm x 45 cm; (5) 61 cm x 78.5 cm.
