4 items extracted from FO 97/531. South-East Europe, the Montenegro-Albania boundary. (1) 'Outline map giving the various proposed boundaries between Montenegro and Albania from the Adriatic sea to near Gusinji'. The map shows boundaries as voted by the [Montenegro Boundary] Commission, and as proposed respectively by the Turkish, Russian and other Commissioners, the compromise arranged by Count Corti in April 1880, and the Dulcigno Arrangement; also the boundary of Kucka Kraina. Reference table. Scale: originally printed as 1:100,000, altered in ms to1: 150000. Compass indicator. Signed M T Sale, Captain Royal Engineers, British Commissioner, 23 August 1880. (2) Another copy of (1), showing in addition the boundary as proposed in Turkish Note of 2 September 1880. Signed M T Sale, Captain Royal Engineers, British Commissioner, 23 August 1880. Originally enclosed in a memorandum of 6 September 1880 by Captain Sale commenting on the [Turkish] Note. (3) 'Commission Européenne pour la délimitation du Monténégro. 'Frontière entre le Lac de Scutari [now Lake Shköder] et la Mer'. Map showing boundary as proposed by the Powers and by the Porte. Reference table. Scale: 1:50,000. Compass indicator. Certified by M T Sale, Captain Royal Engineers, 11 January 1881, to be a copy of the original map drawn in 1879 (see FO 925/3346), and enclosed in his despatch number 5 of 11 January 1881. A note by Captain Sale, British Commissioner, and Colonel Sollogoub, Russian Commissioner, states that the area between Padskale (Podskale), Crwenij-Kamen, and the River Bojana was based on information taken from the Austrian Admiralty chart of the Adriatic at 1:350000 and was not verified on the spot. Zincographed at the Intelligence Department, War Office, February 1881. (4) Map of area between Lake Scutari (now Lake Shköder) and Podgorica, showing 'status quo' boundary as at 16 November 1880, Dulcigno Arrangement boundary, and the line defined by Treaty of Berlin. It also shows the status quo line according to Captain Sale's number 6 of 17 January 1881 and the modification of the status quo line which the Turkish commissioner is prepared to commend. Scale: 1:50000. Reference table. Signed by M T Sale and enclosed in despatch of 18 November 1880. Zincographed. See FO 97/531 which is a duplicate with MS additions showing 'status quo' line, and modifications which the Turkish Commissioner was prepared to recommend, as described in M T Sale's no 6 of 17 January 1881. FO 925/3245 subsequently printed at the Intelligence Department, Horse Guards, November 1880. All signed by M T Sale, Captain Royal Engineers, British Commissioner, 23 August 1880. Dimensions: (1) and (2) each 53 cm x 38.5 cm; (3) 62.5 cm x 47 cm; (4) 43 cm x 36.5 cm.
