1 item extracted from C 24/3, no 12. England: Sussex: Walland Marsh. Pictorial plan showing marshland between the sea and a road: parishes of Iden, Playden, Brenzett, and Brookland (Sussex and Kent); Kite Marsh and Guldeford Level. Also shows walls and dykes, marks in the lower road (possibly impressions of horses' hoofs). Houses and churches at Iden and Brenzett, bridges, gate (disproportionately large), all shown in perspective. No scale shown. Oriented to the south. Turtle watermark: similar to Briquet 13281. To illustrate dispute over title to marshland: the Prior of Christchurch, Canterbury v Thomas Cheney. The map was attached to depositions in the case dated October, 28 Henry VIII, which are in C 23/3 no 12. Apparently drawn by Sir Gyles Alyngton, one of the deponents, as a copy of a map produced for an earlier case in Chancery, 10-11 Henry VIII, Thomas Eldryngton v Thomas Cheney and John Marten (C 1/405/24).
