Description

Plan of Southwark, Surrey, showing streets and named buildings: the manor place and liberty, churches, cross, bull ring, market place, court house, the King's Bench, Marshalsea prison, pillory, inns with signboards, gates including chain gates, wells, hospital [St Thomas's], the king's liberty, park, dykes. Buildings represented by symbols. Text not written in a uniform direction. No scale shown. [Oriented to the east.] Endorsed in later hand: 'No 74 Southwarick'. May have been produced to show extent of the king's liberty and that of the liberty of the manor place, or to show areas of sanctuary as required by Act of 1541.
