Plan of Great and Little Marton, Lancashire, and area west to the coast: showing waterways, marshes, named fields, tenements, salt cotes, road. Some occupiers' names given. ‘Cross of ye sluysse’ drawn pictorially. No scale shown. [Oriented to the north.] Endorsed in later hands: 'No 10 Nothing Indorsed Wherefore Q. whather may conc [illeg.]'; 'Little Marton'. The British Isles published catalogue gave a date of [?Henry VIII]: William Shannon identified this as 'the Prior's map' in a court case of 1530-1531, in which a map of Marton with the reference MR 1/1 represents the opposing claim of the lord of the manor of Layton.
