1 item extracted from SP 15/3. Northumberland: Holy Island. '1548. The platte of the Holie Ilond' (endorsement). Plan of the priory, town, and castle, showing the jetty, breakwater, sand-banks and shoals. Buildings shown in plan; [St Cuthbert's?] cell in perspective. Jetty in bird's-eye view. No legends on map face. No scale shown. This map was originally filed with other (apparently unrelated) papers of the Secretary of State; it may have been made in response to Somerset's orders to increase fortification of the North of England; Colvin suggests that it may have been used by Sir Thomas Holcroft to show Somerset the difficulty and expense that would be required to further fortify the island.
