France: 'A Plan of the Harbour of Cherbourg shewing the Works carrying on for the purpose of making it a Naval Station for Ships of War. Copied from a French map by Monsieur Madenié': plan also shows proposed construction, forts with armament, military buildings, place names, breakwaters. Scale: 28 cm to 2100 toise. Compass indicator. Inset: 'Extract from an unpublished Plan drawn to half this Scale', showing construction of breakwaters. Copied by A Gray, RMSD from a French engraved map by M Madenié. Notes in red ink are described as from 'the manuscript of some Frenchman'; notes in black are 'from the original Engraving'. Endorsed: 'Lieut General Doyle, Guernsey'; Doyle was promoted Lieutenant General on 25 April 1808.
