Plan and bird's-eye view of an 'Inskonce' (sconce or small fort) for the defence of the English border with Scotland, showing positions of opposing forces. Reference table on separate sheet. Scale: about 1 inch to 120 feet. Drawn to accompany an anonymous treatise on fortifying the border, which remains in SP 59/42.
This map was found in two parts, which were joined in 1960. The separate reference sheet and the left-hand seven inches of the plan were previously under the reference SP 59/42; the remainder of the plan was already at that date under the reference MPF 146, extracted from SP 12/287/88.
