'Thamesis Description. Anno 1588.' 18 duplicates of map of the River Thames between Lambeth and Tilbury, showing high points, churches, settlements, fortifications, windmills, bridges, and sightlines from principal buildings. Scale: 1 inch to 1 mile. Compass indicator; oriented to the south. In upper left corner: 'Page 32'. Beneath the title: 'The Work, from which this Chart is taken, is entitled,"Expeditionis Hispanoram in Angliam vera descriptio. A.D. 1588, Roberto Adamo Authore." and is said to have first suggested the designs, on the Tapestry in the House of Lords. The Chart was first engraved, from a Copy drawn by M r. Joseph Ames, in 1738, in the Original on Parchment. (Communicated by the Right Honourable Sir Joseph Banks. K.B.)'. Banks was invested with the Order of the Bath on 1 July 1795. Plate size: 64 cm x 23 cm.
This piece consists of 17 items transferred from SP 9/37/2 and 1 item formerly held in the PRO library under the shelf mark M.C. 3.3, reunited with the others in 1997.
