4 items extracted from CO 873/121. Four sheets relating to contracts for Chinese labourers emigrating to Transvaal. (1) A sample ledger page for recording details of the labourers. A printed statement at the foot of the page reads 'I hereby certify that the above-named Emigrants have been duly examined before me, and that the terms of the contract as well as the provisions of the Schedule have been fully explained to them, in their own language, before signing, and that they have expressed their willingness to abide by the same; and also that they have signed the contract voluntarily and without any misrepresentation or under pressure. Emigration Agent.' (2) and (3) Two identical sheets of Chinese characters possibly giving details of the emigrants. (4) English text of the contract of service, for use in the Witwatersrand district, Transvaal.
