Description

3 items extracted from CO 96/172. (1) 'Gold Coast Colony [now Ghana]. Plan shewing declared open Spaces in Accra ...'. The plan also shows that part of the town within which the keeping of swine is prohibited. Note on colouring. Printed, coloured. Scale: 1 inch to 3 chains. Compass star. Stanford's Geographical Establishment. The plan was originally enclosure number 3 in Gold Coast despatch number 57 of 8 February 1886. The name of Sir Samuel Rowe, Governor of the Gold Coast in 1881 and 1882, is printed below the title. (2) 'Gold Coast Colony [now Ghana]. Open Spaces Accra ...'. Map also showing Bruces' Ruins. MS, coloured, on tracing cloth. Scale: 1 inch to 3 chains. Compass indicator. [By] Mathew Jones, Acting Surveyor General. Received in the Colonial Office Registry, 6 March 1886. (3) Design for a proposed new hotel (in Accra, Gold Coast, now Ghana). Plans of ground floor and first floor, section and front elevation. MS, coloured, on tracing cloth. Scale: 1 inch to 10 feet. Above the title: 'J Bruce Esqre Accra. South Africa'. Signed by J Webster, ARIBA [Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects], architect and surveyor, February 1885. Traced by George W Ward, December 1885. Dimensions: (1) 59 cm x 89 cm; (2) 47 cm x 59 cm; (3) 37 cm x 53 cm.
