2 items extracted from CO 48/245 (folios 85, 152). (1) Sketch map showing the distribution of tribes in Cape Colony (now the Cape Provinces in South Africa), giving tribal and place names. Scale: 1 inch to about 30 miles. Compass indicator. (2) Sketch showing the relative positions of the principal tribes in Cape Colony in 1844. Scale: 1 inch to about 13 miles. Signed by Charles Bell. Originally enclosed in Sir P Maitland's despatch of 7 December 1844. (1) 32 cm x 30 cm; (2) 69 cm x 58 cm.
