3 items extracted from CO 48/49. (1) 'General Plan of the Country between Graham's Town and the Mouth of the Great Fish River [Cape of Good Hope, now Cape Province, South Africa], shewing the different Situations fit for Settlements and habitations'. The map shows proprietors, acreage, nature of country. Explanatory notes describing 18 estates. Scale: 3 inches to 2000 Rhijnland roods (7 inches to about 12 miles). Compass indicator. Surveyed by J Knobel. ' Endorsed: 'The morgen herein alluded to is two English acres.' (2) Another copy of (1). (3) 'A Trigonometrical Survey of Algoa Bay [Cape of Good Hope, now Cape Province, South Africa] taken by order of Fairfax Moresby, Esq., C.B., Captain of H.M.S. Menai by P Brady'. Scale: 1 inch to about 1,560 yards. Table of observed points. Compass rose bisected by a meridian running south to north, with seconds of latitude marked on it. Surveyed in May and June 1820. Inset: similar survey of the entrance of the Zwartkops River (scale: 1 inch to about 240 yards) by W White, Master RN. At the head of the survey is a view of Port Elizabeth from the anchorage. Dimensions: (1) and (2) each 55 cm x 77 cm; (3) 94.5 cm x 63.5 cm.
