1 item extracted from CO 18/9 (folio 331). Sketch of the coasts of Australia and of the supposed entrance of the Great River, with a diagram of the surveying stations in the interior. No scale shown. Drawn for the Friends of Australia 1827. Printer C Hullmandel. 'The Great River (or 'Desired Blessing')' is shown rising in New South Wales, running to an estuary in Dampier Land (now in Western Australia). On the back of the map is a letter from T I Maslem of Ripponden, Yorkshire, to Viscount Goderich, Secretary for the Colonies, dated 19 March 1831, warning against attempts of the Edinburgh Australia Company to cry down the fertility of the Swan River Colony.
