8 items extracted from CO 537/89 (folio 16). St. Helena: Jamestown and environs. (1) 'Sketch showing the position of James Town, Saint Helena. Scale: 1 inch to 200 yards. Compass indicator. (2) 'Plan and Section of the Works on Ladder Hill ...' showing alterations proposed by the Committee. Scale: 1 inch to 60 [feet]. Compass indicator. (3) 'Plan of High Knoll...shewing the position of the Batteries and Lines of Defence ...' showing alterations proposed by the Committee. Scale: 1 inch to 200 feet. Compass indicator. (4) 'Plan of the Ground in the vicinity of the Military Hospital... shewing the position of the Line of Defence across James's Valley ...', showing alterations proposed by the Committee. Scale: 1 inch to 60 feet. Compass indicator. (5) 'Plan of the Summit of Rupert's Ridge...shewing the position of the Batteries and Lines of Defence ...', showing alterations proposed by the Committee. Scale: 1 inch to 200 feet. Compass indicator. (6) Three sections of High Knoll. Scale: 1 inch to 100 feet. (7) 'Sketch of High Knoll, Ruperts and Banks Ridge from the high ground above... September 1838'. (8) 'High Knoll and Ladder Hill shewing those two positions and the plain between. Septr 1838'. All drawn to accompany the report (dated 8 September 1838) of a committee appointed by the order of the Master General and instructions of the Inspector General of Fortifications, 3 April 1838. 1-6 signed by Signed by George J Harding, Lt Col RE, President [of the committee] and Charles Alexander, Capt RE, Secretary [of the committee]; 7-8 signed and probably drawn by Harding. Dimensions of sheets: (2) 53 cm x 79 cm; (3) 39 cm x 50 cm; (4) 39 cm x 51 cm; (5) 75 cm x 50 cm; (7) 29 cm x 81 cm; (8) 29 cm x 79 cm.
