Description (What the record is about)

1 item extracted from CO 267/13. 'A Draught of the Coast of Africa from the Streights Mouth to Cape Bona Esprance ' i.e. from the Straits of Gibraltar to the Cape of Good Hope. The site of Cabendra has been added in MS. Title in a rectangular frame. Scale: 1 inch to about 89 leagues (267 miles). Compass indicators, within the border, at lower left and upper right corners. Near left border a meridian of longitude, at about 20°W. marked with degrees of latitude. European factories on the Gold and Slave Coasts, at Gambia and Sierra Leone, are marked by flags, but these are not coloured to indicate nationality. The English fort established at James Island in the Gambia in 1663 is shown; the French post near it at Albreda, established in 1681, is not.
