1 item extracted from CO 5/52 (f 171). Nova Scotia. 'A Plan of the City and Fortifications of Louisburg from a Survey made by Richard Gridley, Lieut. Coll. of the Train of Artillery in 1745 ...' and 'A Plan of the City and Harbour of Louisburg, with the French Batteries that defended it and those of the English, shewing that part of Gabarus Bay in which they Landed... 1745'. Two plans on one sheet with a small inset map of Gabarus Bay. Reference table to defences. Scales: 1 inch to 300 feet and 1 inch to 1/3 mile (plans); 1 inch to 2.3 miles (inset). Compass roses and lines. Titles in rococo cartouches. Published by Thomas Jefferys, geographer to the prince of Wales at Charing Cross, 20 April 1757. These plans were produced to illustrate the forty-nine day siege of 1745, which ended in the capture of the town by forces mainly raised in New England on 17 June, under Sir William Pepperell.
