Description

1 item extracted from CO 5/316 (f 165). 'An Exact Map of the Boundary Line between the Provinces of North & South Carolina Agreeable to the Royal Instruction'. Showing place names, boundary marks, roads, upper reaches of Packolet, Broad and Catawba Rivers, tract of land on the Catawba for the 'Catabo Nation'. Scale: 1 inch to about 2.5 miles. Compass star. Certified by the Commissioners and Surveyors of the two provinces 4 June 1772. The signatories are as follows: Thomas Rutherfurd and Thomas Polk, Surveyors for North Carolina; James Cook and Ephraim Mitchell, Surveyors for South Carolina; John Rutherfurd and William Dry, Commissioners for North Carolina; William Moultrie and William Thomson, Commissioners for South Carolina. With Governor Martin's of 20 April 1773. Governor Martin described the plan as 'an Original Draft made upon the Spot' and apologises for its roughness.
