'Map of the West Coast of Africa comprising Guinea, and the British Possessions at Sierra Leone, on the Gambia and the Gold Coast [now Ghana], together with the Countries within the Courses of the Rivers Senegal, Gambia and Kowara, compiled from Official documents, by John Arrowsmith, 1858': covering the area between 18°N and 1°N and between 17°W and 11°E; also marking areas of known extensive cotton cultivation. Scale: 1 inch to about 52 miles. Published by John Arrowsmith, 10 Soho Square, 17 April 1858. Inset: 'The Lower Course of the River Niger as far as it was ascended under Captn. Trotter R.N., 1841': map. 'Kowara' (also Kworra or Quorra) is an alternative name for the lower course of the River Niger, and the Nigerian state of Kwara is situated on the Niger.
