Description

4 items extracted from FO 78/2923. Europe: Balkans. 4 maps (of areas now in Yugoslavia). (1) 'Tracing from Austrian Staff Map Showing approximately the colored [sic] line on General Protich's Map': showing the boundary according to the Treaty [of Berlin]; the approximate position of Serbian advanced posts on the termination of war; and the districts from which Serbian troops withdrew and those they still occupied. Scale: 1:300,000 (calculated). (2) 'Tracing from Austrian Staff Map showing discrepancies between it and the Serbian Map, as well as the boundary which will probably be claimed by the Servian [sic] Commissioner ...': also showing the boundary according to the Treaty of Berlin. Scale: 1:300,000 (calculated). (3-4) 'Croquis des Environs de Prepolac': 2 copies, showing rivers, watersheds, contours and place names. Scale: 1:63,360. Drawn by Lieutenant John Ross of Bladensburg, Coldstream Guards; item 4 may have been traced from item 3. Dimensions: (1) 35.5 cm x 45.5 cm; (2) 38 cm x 40 cm; (3) 51 cm x 32.5 cm; (4) 39.5 cm x 29.5 cm. All items originally enclosed in despatches from Major C W Wilson, Royal Engineers: (1) number 6, 10 October 1878; (2) number 8, 10 October 1878; (3) number 22, 30 November 1878; (4) number 14, 10 November 1878.
