3 items extracted from FO 72/221. Chile: (1) Plan of the battle of Talca between the Chilean army under General San Martin and the forces under the command of General Osorio. Scale: 1 inch to about 0.67 miles. Compass star. (2) 'Map of the environs of Santiago showing the order of battle of the forces engaged in the battle of Maypú, 1818'. Scale: 1 inch to about 0.75 miles. Compass indicator. (3) Sheet of notes and references, accompanying item 2. All items are copies by Lieutenant Alexander T E Vidal, Royal Navy. Endorsed: 'Plans alluded to in Commodore Bowles' letter of 7 June enclosed in Admiralty letter of 9 Sept. 1818.' Dimensions: (1) 40 cm x 49 cm; (2) 80.8 cm x 52.9 cm; (3) 36.1 cm x 29.5 cm.
