Description

1 item (enclosure no 2 in Lord Ashburton's despatch no 3 of 1842) extracted from FO 5/379 (folio 45). 'Map of that portion of Her Majesty's Colonies of New Brunswick and Lower Canada the title to which is disputed by the Government of the U. States with parts of the Adjacent Country The Rise & Course of the Rivers with the direction of the Highlands and their elevation above the Sea expressed in English feet fom Barometrical admeasurements to accompany a report of the investigation of that Country which the R t Hon b Viscount Palmerston... directed to be made A.D. 1839'. In upper left margin: 'Reduced copy of Map A'. Scale not constant: latitudes and longitudes shown. Insets in side margins: sections of the country between the Bay des Chaleurs and the south-eastern sources of the St John's River; and along a line due north of the source of the Chiputnaticook. (Sgnd) J D Featherstonhaugh, Secretary and Draughtsman to the Commissioners. Constructed by direction of Richard L Mudge and G W Featherstonhaugh. Engraved by James Wyld, Charing Cross East, London. Coloured MS additions highlight areas along the west bank of the St John's River north and south of its confluence with the Madawaska River. Originally enclosed in Lord Ashburton's despatch no 3 [of 1842].
