Description

1 item (enclosure to letter of 3 May 1890 from the Colonial Office) extracted from FO 84/2081. 'Map of Matabililand and adjoining Territories compiled in the Intelligence Division, War Office 1889. Revised June 1890'. Compiled and lithographed by J E Hawkins, under the direction of J C Dalton, Major RA. Uncorrected Proof no 3. Red MS additions show the territory claimed by Lobengula; green MS additions show the route to Mashonaland sanctioned by Lobengula for the British South Africa Company; both in accordance with a map signed by E A Maund, Matabeleland, Feb 1890, and furnished by the Foreign Office. MS additions also show disputed territory south-east of Tati; European spheres of influence.
